The past few weeks have been fantastic for the school in terms of community involvement. Claire Skillen and Rosa Coker-Burnett came in to reorganise the library, Morgan Jackson and Ray Critchlow built us a new sandpit, Michelle Quinn has spruced up the playground and others have offered to share a fantastic range of skills. The involvement of the community is such a special part of school life and it’s really valued by the children. Thanks also to all who came to the school Community Open Day on the October 4th. The children really enjoyed showing off their displays, lessons and in the case of class two their culinary skills; Beth, Ella and Josh made some impressive mediterranean fare cooked on the little school portable oven!

The school Harvest Festival Service was a pleasure to take part in and again thanks to all who came. The food haul was the biggest the school has ever collected. Considering this was from such a small number of families it was a fantastically generous collection and should make a difference to the Sheffield Cathedral Project which offers support to homeless people in the city. Owing to illness in his classmates (both of whom have thankfully recovered!) Josh ably held the fort in narrating the service. All the children played roles, from Thomas the farmer to Grace the chicken, with Jack the goat, Sam the cow, Leo the pig and Gabbi the horse. It was great hearing them all sing so happily and with such enthusiasm - especially the Conker Song which the children performed as an encore.

Another exciting event this month has been Class 2 being filmed for the ITV show, ‘100 Great British Walks’, which will be aired in the spring. It was a fantastic day where the children let the camera crew up Mam Tor, learning about how television is made and showing off our beautiful valley in the process.

Thanks to Dark Peak Fell Runners have donated the proceeds of their BogFest fell race to the school. Mrs Garmeson has earmarked the funds for equipment for the children to use when on ‘Edale Island’, which will be fully up and running after half term.

Keep you diaries free for the Christmas Fair on December 2nd and the FOES fund-raising Race Night on the 16th December. We’re also going to be making some packs of Christmas cards using the children’s designs and are hoping that if you’re sending Christmas cards this year you’ll support the school and use ours. We promise they’ll be fabulously festive!

  • Class 2 to be filmed for ITV!

    Mon 16 Oct 2017

We have been approached by ITV who want to film Edale and Castleton's KS2 classes  walking up Mam Tor as part of their series on '100 Great British Walks'. A great opportunity for the children to experience how television is made and to participate in showing the nation what a fantastic area we live in. Due to be aired in the Spring. Let's hope the sun shines!

  • Prospective Parent Open Day

    Mon 16 Oct 2017

    Wednesday November 8th

The school will be throwing open its doors again on Wednesday 8th November to prospective parents. Spread the word!

  • Harvest Festival

    Mon 16 Oct 2017

Fabulous Harvest Festival last well, with such a generous haul of produce for the Sheffield Cathedral Archer Project from our small band of parents. Excellent singing from the children with special mention to Josh who narrated brilliantly whilst filling in for his poorly classmates. The Conker Song at the end was brilliant!

The Cathedral Archer Project (CAP) is a day centre that helps people who are homeless and the school is proud to be able to support their valuable work.

  • Ofsted Visit

Wed 11 Oct 2017 Kay Argyle

Lots of positive comments from the Ofsted inspector today. Well done to staff and governors, especially Mrs Lees, for all their hard work. His full report will be sent to us and put online in 10-15 working days.

This was a monitoring visit only. Schools have 2 years from being put into 'special measures' before they are formally inspected again. During this time there can be anything up to termly monitoring visits by Ofsted. The later monitoring visits can be converted to an inspection if the school is deemed to have made sufficient progress, and at that point the school is taken out of 'special measures'. So schools can come out of 'special measures' before the 2 years is up if they respond effectively.

This was our first Ofsted monitoring visit and so we do not expect to be taken out of 'special measures' at this point, but are hopeful that all our work will be recognised and the school deemed to be effective in its response so far to the judgement in February.

    Fingers crossed!

  • Ofsted are back!

    Wed 11 Oct 2017
Good luck to everyone for our follow-up Ofsted inspection today! The amount of work that has gone on over the last ten months has been phenomenal and the atmosphere at the school, the impression the classrooms give and the achievement of the children really reflect the effort that has been put in. Well done!
  • Community Open Day

    Fri 06 Oct 2017
Well done to all the staff and children for putting on a fantastic community open day this week. The displays were fantastic and it was fabulous to have the children talk so enthusiastically about their school. Special thanks to Mrs Doust and Class 2 for their tasty treats. It was great fun watching you all cook them!
