Governors

Welcome to our Governors' section.

What does the Governing Body do?

The Governing Board has three main functions:

  1. Ensuring clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school

  2. Providing accountability for school leaders in relation to the educational achievement of pupils and the performance management of staff

  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Since September 2019 the Governing Body for Edale School has been the Governing Body of the Valley Federation of Edale C of E and Hope Primary Schools

What does being a Governor involve?

The role of the Governing Body is to provide support and challenge to the head teacher and senior leadership team to help them deliver the best possible education for all children at the school. The Governing Body is not responsible for the day to day running of the school. This is the job of the head teacher and senior leadership team.

Our Governing Body meets twice a term, in the evenings. Governors also attend school regularly to meet with pupils and staff, and to take part in whole school activities and events.  Our Governing Body is made up of representatives from the staff, parents, community, local authority and the Diocese. Details of the Governors of the Valley Federation schools will be found on the Valley Federation website in the Autumn term of 2020. There is a maximum of 15 Governors on the Board at any one time. Most Governors serve a term of office of 4 years, although they can be re-elected or appointed if they remain eligible to serve.

Governors have a range of skills. These include education, HR, finance, data, ICT, procurement, communication, leadership and administration. We are always happy to hear from people who have relevant skills and are interested in being a Governor. If you would like to know more about the role of the Governor, please speak to a member of the Governing Body or contact the Chair.

How do I contact the Governing Body?

The Governing Board can be contacted through either the Chair,  John Payne, via the school office on 01433 670280 or by email  jpayne@edale.derbyshire.sch.uk
