Curriculum Statement

Edale Church of England (Controlled) Primary School Governors’ Curriculum Statement

Each pupil at the school will be given equal access to a curriculum which:

  • Is well planned.
  • Is broad and balanced.
  • Promotes the development of skills, knowledge and attitudes.
  • Provides continuity and progression in learning.
  • Is challenging, exciting, and relevant.
  • Encourages academic, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development.
  • Exploits the benefits of modern technologies.
  • Reflects the need for children to develop healthy minds and bodies.
  • Develops confident, independent thinkers.
  • Is relevant by being built upon individual assessment.

The curriculum meets statutory requirements as defined by the Early Years Foundation Stage (2012) and National Curriculum (2014).

A strong emphasis is placed on Maths and English which will be taught separately, but practised alongside all other statutory subjects in cross-curricular topics. The rest of the curriculum is taught through a variety of methods as most relevant and efficient: as single subjects, half termly or termly topics, as continuous elements integrated with other subjects.

The school reflects the moral and religious values which underpin its foundation, leading to a clear understanding of the concepts of right and wrong, of fairness towards all, and of respect for all.

The school engages with the local community and with the surrounding landscape so that children develop confident, healthy relationships with respect for others and can play, explore and challenge themselves with respect for their natural heritage.
