Edale CE Primary School

Ian Moran (1965-1970)

Ian now lives in Macclesfield and enjoys returning to Edale to reminisce about the 5 years he spent living here as a child. Recently Ian had a look around the school with his partner and spoke about the village and especially his time at the school, with great warmth and affection. Ian’s partner said Edale is Ian’s “spiritual home”.

“I spent my junior years at Edale School. I was in a year with three others including Tim B, and Penny B. The vicar at the time was Michael Bishop and I was friends with his son. The teacher at the time was Mrs Cooper, who lived on a farm in the village on the opposite side of the valley to my family. She gave me lines once for calling the hard chocolate pudding “chocolate rock”! I remember Penny B collared me in the toilets and gave me my first kiss! The toilets were outside then, and I kept trapping my fingers in the door. I’ll always remember my time here.”

Ian recalled the school children singing to Princess Margaret when she open the village hall, and the highlight was when she offered his brother a “sARndwich”!

Ian talks about how special childhood is in Edale. The school building has changed a lot since those days but the warmth and community centred spirit of the place remains today.
